Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #1 Recruiting Apprentices
The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers are starting a recruitment period for five Bricklayer-Mason apprentices.
The application and affidavits are available online for 24 hours a day on these dates:

Civil Service Exams
Most jobs with the City of New York require that you take and pass a test. This test is known as a Civil Service Exam. Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, the exams being offered are only ones you can take online.
Exam Fees and Waivers
You have to pay a fee to take any exam. However, some New Yorkers—including veterans, people receiving public assistance or Unemployment Insurance benefits, and others— are eligible for a fee waiver. Learn more about fee waivers.
Construction Site Safety Training Program
Workers at many construction job sites in New York City will be required to have 40 hours of safety training by March 1, 2021. The Construction Site Safety Training Program provides the required Site Safety Training for NYC residents who are 18 years or older and new to the construction industry.

Green City Force Service Corp
Green City Force prepares NYCHA residents for sustainable career pathways. Participants get trained while serving NYC public housing communities. To join the program, you must meet all these requirements:
- Currently live in a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Development
- Have a GED or High School diploma
- Be between the ages of 18-24
- Be a US citizen or have legal resident status
- NOT have a bachelor’s degree

We Speak NYC
We Speak NYC offers free weekly English conversation classes for intermediate level learners. Join a class to meet new people, learn about New York City services and resources, and practice speaking English!
Classes run from: Sunday, January 31st – Saturday, April 10th

Career Discovery NYC
Career Discovery NYC is a centralized resource to assist New Yorkers with career discovery and training. The portal provides online, no-cost trainings that prepare New Yorkers with the necessary skills to pursue a pathway for an in-demand career. It helps New Yorkers:
- Explore: Learn about a new career that’s in demand, including skill requirements and salary expectations.
- Discover: Take introductory courses to help you decide if a specific career is a good fit for you.
- Prepare: Spend more time practicing what you’ve learned to gain comfort and familiarity with those skills.
- Train: Apply to training programs that can lead you to a new career.
You can also learn where to get low-cost or free internet access and support services.
Career Discovery NYC is currently available for tech careers. Careers in healthcare, industrial and manufacturing, and media will be added in the fall.
