This free program helps New Yorkers learn English.
The Department of Education has free, online English classes for New Yorkers ages 21 and older. Learners can build their English speaking and reading skills. The DOE also offers Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes.
To be eligible, you must:
- Live in New York City
- Be 21 years or older
- Not have a U.S. high school diploma or equivalency (HSE)
You do not need a social security number or documentation to take these classes.
The schedule depends on the student’s needs.
