This program helps adults improve their English language skills.

The CUNY Adult Literacy program offers free classes for a range of adult learners in NYC. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) helps improve English speaking, understanding, reading, and writing skills. Classes are offered at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Who it's for Who it's for

Classes are open to any adult or young adult who:

  • No longer needs to attend a Department of Education high school
  • Speaks a first language other than English and has limited English skills

Classes start at the beginning level. Some programs have classes up to the advanced level.

For the Spring 2021 semester, all classes meet online. Days and times are different depending on the program or class.
