The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP’s water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The EHS Reporting & Investigation Division is responsible for conducting employee investigations concerning possible violations of the agency’s Workplace Violence Prevention policy and program as well as conducting investigations following EHS incident occurring at DEP facilities, involving DEP equipment or affecting DEP employees. The EHS R&I unit will also provide guidance and support by EHS investigators to Bureau EHS staff, and Mission Support Bureaus without EHS staff, concerning implementation of the agency’s EHS Reporting & Investigation policy. Moreover, the unit will review and be responsible for ensuring quality control/quality assurance oversight of information, data and investigation entered into the agency-wide Audit and Investigation Information Management System (“AIIMS”). OEHS R&I seeks the assistance of a summer intern to provide general support and assistance with administrative activities related to investigations for both workplace violence and EHS incident investigations, assist with evaluation metrics from AIIMS and CRM WPV databases for reporting purposes. The selected candidate will also assist with editing and reviewing current training presentations and provide general support and assistance to EHS incident investigator in conducting quality assurance/quality control review of information in AIIMS.
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June – August each year.
