High Rise Concrete Carpenters Recruiting Apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the High Rise Concrete Carpenters of NYC is recruiting apprentices between February 10 and November 10, 2021. To apply, you must pick up an application in person. Applications are available on the second Wednesday of every month from 7–7:30am at:

Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #1 Recruiting Apprentices

The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers are starting a recruitment period for five Bricklayer-Mason apprentices.

The application and affidavits are available online for 24 hours a day on these dates:

  • April 30
  • May 28
  • June 25
  • September 24
  • October 29
  • November 19
  • December 21

You must print applications and affidavits, fill them out completely, sign them, and return them by mail with a copy of your High School diploma or High School equivalency diploma such as TASC or GED. Mail them to:

International Masonry Institute, 12-07 44th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101. Applications must be postmarked no later than December 17, 2021.

Info Session for careers at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)

Join this session to learn about skilled trade jobs at the MTA including Car Maintainer, Car Inspector, Structure Maintainer (Ironwork and Sheet Metal) and Track Equipment Maintainer, the MTA’s hiring process and to hear directly from agency representatives about their work experience. Candidates should have education and several years of experience in any of the following areas: Heavy-Equipment Mechanic, Sheet Metal Worker, Machinist and Ironworker.

Exam Fees and Waivers

Skill Building

ESL Conversation Workshops at the Queensborough Community College

Join a FREE conversation class that will help you improve your speaking skills and confidence in the English language. Whether you are already taking an ESL class or just need more conversation practice, this workshop is your chance to discuss various topics and share your life stories.

Classes meet every Monday from April 26, 2021 – June 7, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Resume & Career Help at Brooklyn Public Library

The Brooklyn Public Library’s Resume & Career Help and Job Information Resource Librarians offer assistance to all New Yorkers with writing resumes and cover letters, job interviewing, and finding the right career or college. Services are free and available online or through email.

Construction Site Safety Training Program

Workers at many construction job sites in New York City will be required to have 40 hours of safety training by March 1, 2021. The Construction Site Safety Training Program provides the required Site Safety Training for NYC residents who are 18 years or older and new to the construction industry.

Free Computer Skills Accelerator Course

The Boro Park Jewish Community Council and Community Board 12 are partnering to provide New Yorkers with a FREE computer skills accelerator virtual course. Experienced and qualified computer instructors lead the computer courses. The course aims to provide critical tools and teach introductory, entry-level skills to beginners and expand abilities to increase job potential.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

CUNY Kingsborough’s Job Corps Scholars is now recruiting for the FREE 2021 EMT training program for those who are 18-24 years old. The course will prepare you to take the NYC EMT examination. You will learn basic life-saving techniques such as scene safety, patient assessment, management of fractures, bleeding control, movement of patients, and oxygen administration.

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Are between the ages of 18-24
  • Are a US citizen/NY resident
  • Have a high school diploma or passed the TASC

Career Exploration

Career Discovery NYC

Career Discovery NYC is a centralized resource to assist New Yorkers with career discovery and training. The portal provides online, no-cost trainings that prepare New Yorkers with the necessary skills to pursue a pathway for an in-demand career. It helps New Yorkers:

  • Explore: Learn about a new career that’s in demand, including skill requirements and salary expectations.
  • Discover: Take introductory courses to help you decide if a specific career is a good fit for you.
  • Prepare: Spend more time practicing what you’ve learned to gain comfort and familiarity with those skills.
  • Train: Apply to training programs that can lead you to a new career.

You can also learn where to get low-cost or free internet access and support services.

Career Discovery NYC is currently available for tech careers. Careers in healthcare, industrial and manufacturing, and media will be added in the fall.
