Tile, Marble, Terrazzo BAC LU #7

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Tile, Marble and Terrazzo BAC, Local Union #7 of NY & NJ will conduct a recruitment from June 7, 2021 through November 5, 2021 for three Tile, Marble and Terrazzo Finisher apprentices; five Tile Setter apprentices; five Terrazzo Worker apprentices; and five Marble, Carver, Cutter and Setter apprentices.

Applications will be available at the International Masonry Institute, 12-07 44th Avenue, Long Island City, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on 6/7/21, 6/8/21, 6/9/21, 6/10/21, 11/1/21, 11/2/21, 11/3/21, and 11/4/21. Applications must be completed, and exams taken, on the day of application. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. There will be no admittance after 8:30 a.m. Processing will be until 10:00 a.m.

High Rise Concrete Carpenters Recruiting Apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the High Rise Concrete Carpenters of NYC is recruiting apprentices between February 10 and November 10, 2021. To apply, you must pick up an application in person. Applications are available on the second Wednesday of every month from 7–7:30am at:

Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #1 Recruiting Apprentices

The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers are starting a recruitment period for five Bricklayer-Mason apprentices.

The application and affidavits are available online for 24 hours a day on these dates:

  • June 25
  • September 24
  • October 29
  • November 19
  • December 21

You must print applications and affidavits, fill them out completely, sign them, and return them by mail with a copy of your High School diploma or High School equivalency diploma such as TASC or GED. Mail them to:

International Masonry Institute, 12-07 44th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101. Applications must be postmarked no later than December 17, 2021.

Civil Service Exams


Most jobs with the City of New York require that you take and pass a test. This test is known as a Civil Service Exam.  Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, the exams being offered are only ones you can take online.

Exam Fees and Waivers

You have to pay a fee to take any exam. However, some New Yorkers—including veterans, people receiving public assistance or Unemployment Insurance benefits, and others— are eligible for a fee waiver. Learn more about fee waivers.

Resume & Career Help at Brooklyn Public Library

The Brooklyn Public Library’s Resume & Career Help and Job Information Resource Librarians offer assistance to all New Yorkers with writing resumes and cover letters, job interviewing, and finding the right career or college. Services are free and available online or through email.

Construction Site Safety Training Program

Workers at many construction job sites in New York City will be required to have 40 hours of safety training by March 1, 2021. The Construction Site Safety Training Program provides the required Site Safety Training for NYC residents who are 18 years or older and new to the construction industry.

Free Computer Skills Accelerator Course

The Boro Park Jewish Community Council and Community Board 12 are partnering to provide New Yorkers with a FREE computer skills accelerator virtual course. Experienced and qualified computer instructors lead the computer courses. The course aims to provide critical tools and teach introductory, entry-level skills to beginners and expand abilities to increase job potential.

Brooklyn Public Library Adult Learning Centers

Get free educational programing through books, technology and interactive classroom instruction taught by professional and friendly instructors and tutors to build the skills needed to meet personal, educational and employment goals.

Brooklyn Public Library Learning Centers are located at the Central, Eastern Parkway, Flatbush, Bedford and New Lots libraries.

Groups and classes are for participants 17 years and older who are functioning below the high school level. The program focuses on reading, writing, and HSE preparation. All programs and classes are available mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturdays and include:

  • Basic Literacy
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE)
  • Assistance with obtaining your high school equivalency diploma (HSE)
  • Citizenship Prep
  • Basic Computer Literacy
  • Educational workshops
